Warhammer 40k – 25th Anniversary

40k Anniversary Model

Sneak pics are up across the web for the February White Dwarf. While it looks to have a lot of LOTR content,  the stand out for me is the new 25th Anniversary model for Warhammer 40k.

The model should be available late February and will most likely be released with a Troop combo box. All of these will be very limited releases and you`ll need to be quick to get yours.

These will be available for preorder one week out from release as per our trade contract with our supplier.

Choosing my Space Wolf tournament army

There was a time when I placed in the top 5 at every event I went to. Admittedly that was a few years ago, the local scene was a small (Bundaberg) and I was getting in 5 or 6 games a week and knew every codex better than the writes. In 2012 I plan to do my best to drag myself from the bottom half of finishers into the top half. Step one is choosing a better list.

I have played with every codex at events over the past few years, but always come back to my Space Wolves. The Space Wolf codex is one of the stronger codex’s out there at the moment; however in the past I have tended to take softer fluffier lists. For 2012 I aim to push the power of my list up a few notches and see where that takes me.

This is a highly mobile punchy list, with three Drop Pods, two Razorbacks and two Vindicators. This lets me deploy in a smaller footprint to help channel threats and deal with them piecemeal rather than engaging the whole enemy at once. The Drop Pods landing zones will be dictated by enemy deployments and movements, but will reflect this narrow zoning.

I had been working on the new Njall Stormcaller in terminator armour, so this was an auto inclusion for me. Alongside him is a standard Rune Priest with Living Lightning and Tempests Wrath. This allows me to spread some big anti-jump pack bubbles across the board, very helpful when playing against lots of Blood Angel armies.

Two five man Grey Hunter squads led by Wolf Guard with Razorbacks provide fire support and scoring units. A ten man squad with flamers will deploy via Drop Pod and take care of any horde units or dug in infantry. My final five man Grey Hunter squad has a versatile role. They can either hold an objective in my DZ with their Drop Pod being dropped empty onto the battlefield to distract units subject to Rage or to help channel the enemy or they can be dropped onto an out of reach objective where they can hunker down and hold.

My two Vindicators lay down some serious firepower into the lanes that I channel the enemy forces. With a front armour of 13 they can take some heavy fire and still live. Just don’t let anything flank or assault them.

I have put the list through a few practice games and I have found that it performs quite well. Now to make sure it’s painted before Quarter Master…….

Rebuilding and old army – part 1

If you have been collecting miniatures for any length of time you will have a small stash of models tucked away from a project started but never completed. Or you upgraded your army and retired the older models in favour of the new shinies. We are going to show you how to drag those guys kicking and screaming back to the battle.

Old friends, new friends and bitz

Looking through my bitz boxes I found a handful of Space Marine Bikes from many years ago, some Land Speeders that I picked up from the buy and swap table at Orktoberfest, some Dark Angel Veterans, Scouts and a some Assault on Black Reach Marines from one of our store demo armies.  The bikes were crying out to be part of a Ravenwing themed Dark Angel force, so I put together a quick 1750 point list.

...from the store Bitz box.

…from the store bitz boxI grabbed another Tactical squad and looked through the store bitz for some Dark Angels bitz. A quick bath in Simple Green and a scrubbing down to clear off 15 years worth of paint before sitting down to build.  The Dark Angel bits were sprinkled added to each unit to give them some character, sergeants and special weapon guys were upgraded. Scraped off a few mold lines that had been there from an earlier time and they were give a quick undercoat with some black undercoat.

shoulder pads to spice up the bikes

Check back next week as the first units are readied for battle….
