There was a time when I placed in the top 5 at every event I went to. Admittedly that was a few years ago, the local scene was a small (Bundaberg) and I was getting in 5 or 6 games a week and knew every codex better than the writes. In 2012 I plan to do my best to drag myself from the bottom half of finishers into the top half. Step one is choosing a better list.

I have played with every codex at events over the past few years, but always come back to my Space Wolves. The Space Wolf codex is one of the stronger codex’s out there at the moment; however in the past I have tended to take softer fluffier lists. For 2012 I aim to push the power of my list up a few notches and see where that takes me.
This is a highly mobile punchy list, with three Drop Pods, two Razorbacks and two Vindicators. This lets me deploy in a smaller footprint to help channel threats and deal with them piecemeal rather than engaging the whole enemy at once. The Drop Pods landing zones will be dictated by enemy deployments and movements, but will reflect this narrow zoning.
I had been working on the new Njall Stormcaller in terminator armour, so this was an auto inclusion for me. Alongside him is a standard Rune Priest with Living Lightning and Tempests Wrath. This allows me to spread some big anti-jump pack bubbles across the board, very helpful when playing against lots of Blood Angel armies.
Two five man Grey Hunter squads led by Wolf Guard with Razorbacks provide fire support and scoring units. A ten man squad with flamers will deploy via Drop Pod and take care of any horde units or dug in infantry. My final five man Grey Hunter squad has a versatile role. They can either hold an objective in my DZ with their Drop Pod being dropped empty onto the battlefield to distract units subject to Rage or to help channel the enemy or they can be dropped onto an out of reach objective where they can hunker down and hold.
My two Vindicators lay down some serious firepower into the lanes that I channel the enemy forces. With a front armour of 13 they can take some heavy fire and still live. Just don’t let anything flank or assault them.
I have put the list through a few practice games and I have found that it performs quite well. Now to make sure it’s painted before Quarter Master…….
